Bolivia starts exporting chia to China and opens market for Sorghum

5 de March de 2025 |

Bolivia began exporting chia to China from Santa Cruz, with the initial dispatch of 25 tonnes.

The container was dispatched in the Warnes Industrial Park, accompanied by authorities, producers and Chinese representatives. The opening to the Chinese market also includes sorghum, thanks to agreements reached within the framework of Bolivian commercial diplomacy.

The projection is ambitious: to reach 50,000 tonnes of chia per year to generate more than US $100 million in four years. The Chinese ambassador to Bolivia highlighted the reliability of this market and acknowledged the public-private effort. Other products such as sesame and sorghum are also expected to be included in shipments in the near future.

In the words of producer Edmundo Juan Ferell, this opening will be decisive for farmers, who have received technical and commercial support from the state.
